Books 360° in Lagos: UNAA-USA’s Chinedum Igwe Unveils Grassroots Leadership Revolution for Africa’s Next Generation – (7th February 2026)

By Noble Uchegbu Uchechukwu Zachariah

On Saturday, 7th February 2026, the serene ambience of Centre for Research, Information Management and Media Development (CRIMMD) Library and Museum, Ajao Estate, Lagos, came alive with literary energy, intellectual engagement, and visionary conversations as scholars, authors, alumni association leaders, and community advocates gathered for the “Tour of CRIMMD Public Library and Museum, Books 360° (Meet and Greet).”

The event, convened under the strategic partnership of International Association of African Authors and Scholars-Professional Development Institute (IAAAS-PDI) and CRIMMD, was more than a literary outing, it was a movement to rekindle reading culture, empower authors, and redefine leadership preparation in Africa.

At the heart of the initiative stands Chinedum Igwe, MBA, Executive Director of IAAAS-PDI and former Branch President of University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) Atlanta Branch, USA, whose unwavering commitment to building a global network of African authors and modern leadership training hubs continues to inspire many across continents of the world.

Books as Endless Companions:

From authorship mentoring workshops to book signings and autograph sessions, Books 360° reinforced a powerful truth captured in the words of Troy Colston, RN: “An author is only useful if people read, otherwise knowledge dies with the author.”
This philosophy formed the backbone of the Lagos engagement, placing physical books back on shelves, strengthening community based learning skills, and nurturing the next generation of writers and thinkers. The symbolic “Books and the Owl Relationship” segment further emphasized wisdom, curiosity, and lifelong learning as pillars of personal growth.

UNAA’s Endorsement and Strategic Alignment:

Adding institutional weight to the occasion was the presence of the National President of UNAA, Queen Dr. Linda Agua-Onyekwelu, who attended the book review session and commended the initiative.

In her remarks, she applauded the vision behind Books 360°, describing it as “…a timely intellectual intervention that aligns with UNAA’s commitment to mentorship, scholarship, and ethical leadership.” She emphasized that alumni bodies should not only celebrate past academic excellence but also invest in shaping future leaders.

According to her, UNAA’s global network remains positioned to collaborate on initiatives that promote reading culture, research-driven leadership training, and structured mentorship for students and young graduates.

Queen Dr. Linda Agua-Onyekwelu further noted that early leadership orientation, as proposed by Chinedum Igwe, resonates with UNAA’s broader mandate of nation-building through knowledge exchange, alumni engagement, and intergenerational capacity development.

A Vision Beyond Literature:

While the literary workshop energized participants, Chinedum Igwe’s broader vision resonated even more profoundly, an ambitious grassroots leadership intervention designed to prepare young Africans for ethical and selfless service long before they assume positions of authority.

Under the banner of IAAAS-PDI Grassroots Early Leadership Skills Intervention with UNN Alumni, the proposal outlines a transformative pathway:

  • Virtual and physical early-intervention leadership classes.
  • Ethical reorientation to position leadership as public service, not business venture.
  • Integration of noble leadership principles into everyday academic studies.
  • Research-driven coursework resetting mindsets toward visionary, value-based governance.
  • Deployment of the Africa International Leadership Institute (AILI) framework to directly impact youths and students.

This proactive approach emphasizes leadership skills before leadership positions, a paradigm shift urgently needed in societies where noble leadership is scarce.

Building a Continental Movement:

The Lagos tour reflects the expanding footprint of IAAAS-PDI’s mission, to engage communities and countries through education, authorship mentoring, and practical leadership development. With partners such as Dr. Raphael James, Director General of CRIMMD, and Dr. Franklin Obiagwu, Africa Representative of IAAAS-PDI, the initiative is steadily evolving into a continental platform for transformation.

Observers and supporters, including admirers from the United States, have described Chinedum Igwe’s pursuit as “relentless,” applauding his dedication to establishing a vast organization of African authors alongside modern leadership training centers tailored to African realities.

The Road Ahead:

As the curtains closed on the Lagos edition of Books 360°, the message was unmistakable: knowledge must circulate, mentorship must multiply, and leadership must be taught intentionally.

Chinedum Igwe’s proposal signals not just another program, but the beginning of a structured, long-term leadership renaissance, starting from campuses, alumni networks, and grassroots communities.

In a continent brimming with youthful potential, initiatives like this, strengthened by institutional partners like UNAA, may well redefine Africa’s leadership narrative: one book, one student, and one visionary intervention at a time.

Burial of UNN’s Prof. Fabian Obetta Onah (Ezeakwulugo) – (7th February 2026)

On Saturday, 7th February, 2026 at Ovoko-Agu, the mortal remains of late Prof. Fabian Obetta Onah, a Professor of Public Administration and Local Government (PALG) Studies, was laid to rest.

According to source, Prof. Fabian Obetta Onah was a lecturer and Head of Department of Public Administration and Local Government (PALG) Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). Fab, as he was fondly called, was a professor of international repute whose intellectual works traversed several journals and countries of the world.

To a large extent, he helped to shape many’s penchant for studies. He taught many that one could be richly blessed “upstairs” and still carried one’s briefcase and umbrella unassisted. He was nothing short of home-grown greatness; a quality that is very rare among intellectuals.

Fab was like an endangered specie, fast heading toward extinction. (The UNN community is therefore urged to look around and guard by all means possible the likes of Prof. Fabian Obetta Onah).

May the gentle soul of Prof. Fabian Obetta Onah rest in peace. Amen.

UNAA Holds its 110th NEC Meeting in Owerri, Vows to Address Students’ Challenges, Varsity’s Management Issues – (4th to 7th July 2024)

By Noble Zach Uchegbu

The University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) has chosen Owerri, the capital of Imo State, for the venue of its 110th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, in the bid to reinforce its commitment to its alma mater.

The four-day event, which holds from Thursday, 4th to Sunday, 7th July, 2024, is aimed at addressing critical issues facing the university, its students, and the alumni association.

The announcement was made today, Thursday, 4th July, 2024, during a press conference at Mayfair Suites and Conference Centre located along Owerri/Egbu Road.

The National President of UNAA worldwide, Queen Dr. Linda Agua-Onyekwelu, expressed her satisfaction with the event’s organization and the divine guidance that has brought the members together.

With the theme, “Sustaining the Dignity of Man in a Traumatized Economy”, the National President expressed worry at the current economic meltdown in Nigeria. She acknowledged the severe economic hardships faced by Nigerians and the importance of the NEC meeting in addressing these challenges.

She praised the peaceful atmosphere in Owerri and commended the Executive Governor of the state, Sen.Hope Uzodimma, for ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.

Queen Dr. Linda Agua-Onyekwelu also highlighted concerns about the mismanagement of funds and the poor treatment of students at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

She vowed to ensure accountability and transparency in the university’s administration, questioning the Vice-Chancellor and other officials about the use of federal funds meant for infrastructural development.

“We are deeply troubled by the ongoing mismanagement at UNN,” she said.

“As alumni of UNN, we have the university’s best interests at heart and are ever committed to its progress. We will not allow individuals of questionable character to lead our alumni association.”

The NEC meeting will feature notable attendees, including Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), respected medical doctors, and vice-chancellors from various institutions.

“About thirty (30) professors, more than seven (7) vice-chancellors, and several past vice-chancellors are expected to participate in the event”.

Queen Dr. Linda Agua-Onyekwelu emphasized her achievements since taking office, particularly in fostering peace and reconciliation among members both those in Nigeria and in diaspora.

She reiterated the need for better management of UNN and the proper and judicious use of students’ fees.

Meanwhile, the President of UNAA Owerri Branch, Barr. Louis Alozie, SAN, expressed delight for the event slated to take place in Owerri, Imo State, as he assured all the Lions and Lionesses of effective security of lives and property.

Also, the oldest Lion in the den of UNAA Imo State Council, Elder Maazi Okey Njoku, in his vote of thanks, appreciated the leadership of UNAA for coming to Owerri, Imo State, for the 110th NEC meeting.

The National Publicity Secretary/110th NEC Meeting LOC Secretary, Noble Zach Uchegbu, expressed satisfaction for choosing Owerri for the event, encouraging the press to spread their information accurately and timely without bais.

In another development, the National President of University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA), Queen Dr. Linda Agua-Onyekwelu, has commended Owerri Branch of the Association for resisting all devilish attempts by some dissents to put a knife into the things that held the body together, especially the hosting of the just concluded 110th NEC meeting of the Association at the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors’ Secretariat, Port Harcourt Road, Owerri.

Speaking in an interview in Owerri on her capacity as the Chief host of the event, the National President commended the leadership dexterity of Owerri Branch President, Barr. Louis Alozie, SAN, adding that the NEC meeting was well attended as members from the over forty branches of the Association worldwide attended.

According to Queen Dr. Linda Agua-Onyekwelu, “I commend the people of Imo State for the prevailing peace and togetherness which showed that UNAA Owerri Branch has not been factionalized.”

Also speaking, the President of UNAA Owerri Branch, spoke along the same line debunking allegations that UNAA Owerri Branch was crisis ridden except that, as he put it, “some stupid dissidents are envious of the successes recorded by the branch, especially the hosting of the just commenced 110th NEC meeting which lasted from 4th to 7th July, 2024.

According to him, “no amount of blackmail or infantile threat could stop or disrupt the NEC meeting and anybody trying any nonsense would be committing suicide.”

Alozie (SAN) regretted that a past president of the branch who could not account for the association’s landed property at Aladimma North Layout and Concord Area Owerri could have the courage to call organizers of a function which has Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, (Aha ejiejemba) as its life patron, “a group of fraudsters trying to defraud members of the public,” adding that it was painful to believe.

The Owerri Branch President revealed that the branch parades, as its members, all the well meaning personalities in the state who are products of University of Nigeria who meet monthly to give back to the institution and society what they got from the institution.

In a quick reaction, the highly elated 110th NEC meeting LOC Chairman, Surveyor Clement Nwabichie, thanked God that the committee was able to combat all minor expected challenges in the course of planning for the NEC meeting and was delighted the attendees were relaxed and savoured the hospitality for which Owerri town was known.
